Every year, The Pantone Color Institute, an iconic name in fashion, defines and forecasts global colour trends: For 2019, it’s Living Coral! This shade “embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment.” This vibrant, yet mellow hue will be the inspiration for makeup, clothes, accessories and home décor. Corals and buoyancy combined means only one thing: 80s inspired looks are back in full force!
Here are some makeup and hair suggestions you can explore and enjoy in 2019. With living coral in mind, the key to a complete look is to pick colours that compliment and highlight this trend setter.
The runway looks this season have been vibrant and bold yet minimalist, in keeping with the times. Unleash your inner 80s glamazon with bright colour, metallics and lots of blush, or be unassuming with flawless invisible makeup and glowing skin.
Colour My World: For the daring amongst us, thick liner in electric colours such as cobalt blue and seafoam have been making an appearance.
Shine Baby Shine: Metallic eyeshadows in textures like liquid gold or silver add a touch of glitz to any occasion. Shimmer isn’t just for New Year’s Eve: pop glitter on the lids to brighten up any day!
Classic: Try some black liner in the water line and tight line for a classic feline beauty.
Perfect Pout: Delectable red lips look good on every skin tone, providing you find the right shade! Make the lips the focal point and add a wash of pink blush.
Pretty in Pink: For a softer monochromatic look, try a subtle wash of pink on the lid, cheeks, and /or lips.
Cherry Kiss: A cherry lipstain is another great option – match with a cherry blush. We’ve been spotting several “blossom lips”, concentrating most of the colour at the center of the lips and fading out towards the edges – skip the lipliner!
Spring and Summer 2019 hair is fun, flirty, and sophisticated. Leave winter far behind with some heart melting styles. 80s accessories like headbands and scrunchies have made a comeback and are all the rage.
Blunt Bangs: Ah yes, bangs, the perennial dream or dread. They do look cute though, don’t they?
Layers: Whether they are cut blunt to make a statement, or feathered to flatter features, layers are still a go-to hairstyle. Not ready to commit to a whole new cut? These hairstyles will offer some fresh looks.
80s Volume: Tease loose curls into mega volume, or pull them up into a ponytail. Why not throw on a vintage scrunchie?
Sleek and Stylin’: Get out the gel and brush hair away from the face. This can be done with short or long hair for a confident look.
Chignon: A classic low chignon is so feminine and sophisticated for any occasion.
Old Faithful: We’re not quite ready to let go of our favourites. We’re seeing a lot of top-knots, sleek ponytails, and braids in all different styles.
Have fun, explore, and make sure to discuss all these with your favourite stylist and makeup artist.
